Biography
Harding Meyer (b. 1964, Porto Alegre, Brazil) is a German-Brazilian painter who was raised in Brazil, Geneva and the German-French border region near Strasbourg.
From 1987 to 1993, he studied painting at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Karlsruhe
under Max Kaminski and Helmut Dorner. During the years, the academy fostered an intense dialogue between figurative and abstract painting. This environment played a formative role in the development of his own painterly language.
Meyer began exploring the human face in the late 1980s while working across both figurative and abstract painting. From the mid-1990s onward, large-scale heads emerged as the central subject of his work. Throughout this development abstraction remained an essential element of his approach to painting.
Meyer's work has been exhibited internationally in museums, galleries and public institutions and is held in private and public collections. It has been documented in numerous publications and exhibition catalogues, including the monograph Harding Meyer, edited by David Galloway and published by Kerber Verlag.
He lives near Karlsruhe, Germany.
